Video: “Michael Bierut: 5 Secrets from 86 Notebooks”

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get into a creative slump. That’s when I have to find something whether it’s  music, videos, art, or food (usually peanut butter cups) to get me going again. My husband recently sent me this video and I really learned a lot after watching it.

The video is a talk by Michael Bierut – a graphic designer that has worked for companies such as – Disney, Motorola, Yale School of Architecture, New York University, and the Fashion Institute of Technology.  In the video, Michael describes his creative process…

Michael Bierut: 5 Secrets from 86 Notebooks from 99% on Vimeo.

5 Secrets Summarized:

  1. Listen first, then design
  2. Don’t avoid the obvious
  3. The problem contains the solution
  4. Indulge your obsessions
  5. Love is the answer

I really learned a lot from this video and it gave me a whole new perspective how and why I create… I hope you enjoy!

Excellent video! I was just commenting to a friend yesterday that I am at my best when I am a problem-solving designer and that my best work has come from wanting to resolve a problem/gap expressed by myself or a friend. I reblogged this on my blog and mentioned it came from you. Thanks for sharing!
