5 Fun and Educational Apps for Kids

It’s time to share our favorite apps with you!  We have been steadily collecting some great apps that meet our two main criteria – fun and educational!

Here’s the list of our current favorites (unless otherwise noted, the apps work on both iPhones and iPads)

  • AlphaTots ($2.99 – iPad, $.99 – iPhone) – “A” is for action in this exciting new alphabet game, fresh from the makers of TallyTots™. Whether they’re building robots, digging for treasure or zapping alien ships from the sky, they’ll discover all 26 letters of the alphabet through fun-filled games that invite them to look, laugh and learn. This app is addicting!  It’s really hard to put it down.  Each letter has a little task to do and it just makes learning super fun!
  • Bob Books ($1.99) – Millions of kids have learned to read with Bob Books. Now Bob Books is coming to the iPhone with Bob Books Reading Magic!  Start your child reading with this phonics-based interactive game. The Bob Book app has really helped Jude with spelling.  He is noticing words more and more and tries to spell them all the time.
  • Interactive Alphabet ($2.99) – Every letter is a unique, interactive toy! Play the xylophone on the ‘X’ card, make the ‘D’inosaur roar, ‘Z’ip the Zipper, etc! It is a hands-on, memorable learning experience for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers! Such a fun way to learn the alphabet!  The interactive part is just great, Jude always discovers something new when he uses this app.
  • AlphaWriter ($4.99) – The main screen allows the user to select between two activities. One, the moveable alphabet, which helps children learn how to write and read with phonetics and illustrations. Two, the storyboard section, which allows children an opportunity to express themselves creatively, by composing a story. Jude is still a little too young to get the concept of writing a story, but he really enjoys trying to spell out the words.  We love the adorable illustrations and the sound effects are just great!
  • Preschool Pencil-Pal ($7.99 – iPad only) “Your child will touch, listen, laugh, and learn as he or she discovers important skills through play and practice. Pencil-Pal Preschool will introduce your preschooler to a barnyard full of activities. Sherman Sheep and the rest of the barnyard buddies will help your little one sharpen preschool skills in no time.” Though this is a more expensive app than the rest, it has the most activities included.  There are five activities that include puzzles, videos, coloring activities, and more!   Just like their workbooks, this School Zone app is full of learning activities!

Summer is a great time to reinforce learning, so don’t forget to check out these super fun educational apps!
